  1. How many states are there in India? 
  2. There are 29 states and 7 union territories in India.
  3.  The states have their own government while the union territories are governed by the central government.
  4. There are 545 members in The Lok Sabha. They are called MPs. 543 are elected through Electoral Polls and 2 are nominated from Anglo-Indian Community by President.
  5.  In This Lok Sabha, the two nominated members are Prof. Richard Hay and Mr. George Baker.
  6. The Rajya Sabha can have a maximum of 250 members.
  7.  It currently has a sanctioned strength of 245 members, of which 233 are elected from States and Union Territories and 12 are nominated by the President. The number of members from a state depends on its population
  8. A person must satisfy all following conditions to be qualified to become a member of parliament of the Lok Sabha; Must be a citizen of India.
  9.  Must not be less than 25 years of age. Must be a voter for any parliamentary constituency in India.

  11.  As per article 84 of the constitution, a person is qualified to be a member of parliament provided he: is a citizen of India.

  13. The salaries of the President of India and the Vice-President have been increased to ₹5 lakh and ₹4 lakh a month respectively so as to rectify an anomaly.
    Mr. Jaitley said there had been considerable public debate on the emoluments paid to MPs, and the practice allowing them to fix their own emoluments ran into criticism. “I am, therefore, proposing necessary changes to refix the salary, constituency allowance, office expenses and meeting allowance payable to MPs with effect from April 1, 2018,” he said.
    Accordingly, MPs will now draw a basic salary of ₹1,00,000 (up from ₹50,000), The constituency allowance will go up from ₹45,000 to ₹70,000, and the secretarial costs from ₹45,000 to ₹60,000.
  14.  The Governors, too, will get a rise in their salaries that were last revised in 2006.
